Frédéric Panaïotis, Ruinart Cellar master
Ruinart Blanc Singulier 2017 is composed of 100% chardonnay from 80% of wines from the harvest in 2018 and 20% of reserve wines. It is made mainly from about twenty vintages, from the Côte des Blancs (Bergèrelès- Vertus, Chouilly, Cramant...) but also from the Montagne de Reims (Taissy...) and the Sézannais (Bethon...).
The first experimental version by the cellar master on this new chardonnay blend is the 17th edition of Ruinart Blanc Singulier cuvée.
This edition is also the first blend of the cuvée to enter the perpetual reserve, featuring chardonnays from the 2016 vintage.
Ruinart Blanc Singulier Edition 17 is exclusively available for tasting and purchase at Maison Ruinart in Reims.
The wine’s colour is a clear, bright golden yellow with subtle green highlights.
The fruity notes are intense and complex: a blend of juicy apple and white peach nuances with ripe, almost candied citrus flavours, such as lemon and bergamot. Delicately acidic, this fruit is reminiscent of the scents of aromatic plants from a summer garden with floral, fresh and aniseed variations. Spices, such as coriander, Sil Timur pepper and lemongrass are dry and dynamic. The second nose then brings up almondy notes, candied melon, with a hint of honeydew.
The attack is fresh, frank, chiselled and direct. It contrasts with a texture and coating that gives the wine a singular volume. Once in place, it reveals all the flavours of green figs, green coffee and citron. These delicate fruits bring along their natural freshness, a touch of bitterness that gives the wine a tense, salivating finish, with a sensation of wet chalk that evokes the chalky soil of its terroir of origin.
