JEPPE HEIN X Ruinart

Ruinart has always promoted art as a way to understand the world around us, connect with each other and heighten our awareness. The Maison gives international contemporary artists Carte Blanche to interpret its history and knowhow through his or her art.

In 2022, Jeppe Hein translates his impressions of Ruinart’s terroir into fragments of matter and emotion that awaken our senses and touches our hearts. He places each of us at the centre of a delightful participatory experience: an artistic installation named RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.

After the launch at Palais de Tokyo in Paris in April 2022, this ever-changing installation travels around the world, including Frieze New York where it will be displayed at The Shed from May 18 to 22.

A SENSORY EXPERIENCE

For Jeppe Hein, making and tasting champagne – from the moment the grapes are harvested to the moment the wine sparkles in your mouth – is a total sensory experience. He translated the essence of this into an art installation that appeals to the five senses and summons the four elements – earth, water, air and fire – which are essential to champagne making.

The artist renew the experience of nature and bring it into our daily life at the art fairs, aiming at connecting us to ourselves and the world.
He guides us with messages inscribed on mirroring speech bubbles that echo our own questions and encourage us to express them.

To make this experience accessible to all, Ruinart imagined a digital extension to it. Enter the journey and live in the moment.

Jeppe Hein

The artist

Born in 1974, the Berlin-based Danish artist Jeppe Hein has made a name for himself with installations whose apparent simplicity changes the viewer’s relationship to the space, but also by the participatory dimension that he puts at the heart of his work.

He appeals to the five senses and the four elements like in most of its popular installations : the water pavilions of Appearing RoomsModified Social Benches, and the global project Breathe with Me - that invites audiences to paint their own individual ‘breath’ and visualize the resultant relation between all living being.

Jeppe Hein is one of those artists who starts with very simple things but takes us much further.
