Created in 2010 in the United States and now organised in 9 countries, the Ruinart Sommelier Challenge aims to unite talented sommeliers with shared values of excellence who wish to continue learning about wine and winemaking. By passing on the Maison's innovative oenological approach, Ruinart gives these experts the means to defend a sustainable vision of their profession.
The event is organised in two phases, whith the first part of the day devoted to a wine-tasting competition. Four wines from France or elsewhere are presented in a blind tasting. Candidates are evaluated on wine description, food and wine pairing and serving conditions. A profesional jury determines the winner.
Following the challenge, a masterclass is hosted by an oenologist from Maison Ruinart around a specific theme. A second commented tasting gives sommeliers an exclusive opportunity to discover the Maison's emblematic cuvées.
The winners of each national edition participate, the year after their victories, in a four-day training session in the Champagne region.
